2020.03.28 UPDATE:
With the COVID-19 outbreak Aaron and his team were ordered to suspend all fieldwork through April 24th. So as of now, they will not be netting northern pike on Largon Lake. As a result the regulation proposal would have to wait until after we can do a netting survey out there, which will hopefully be in 2021.
2020.02.27 UPDATE:
There has been some discussion around what appears to be “tumor like” growth on the northern pike in Largon Lake:
We’ve been in touch with the DNR who’s indicated we shouldn’t worry about this, it’s a fairly common virus in norther pike populations and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. More info at https://dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/documents/fishhealth/LymphosarcomaFactSheet.pdf
2020.02.25 UPDATE:
The association board recently talked to Aaron (Wisconsin DNR), and he indicated that there will be a DNR netting of northers on Largon Lake early this spring when the ice is out. Northerns evidently don’t react very well to the shocking done last year, and they want to see the results before deciding on any changes to the fishing size regulation for Northern Pike on Largon Lake.
We’re interested in understanding any thoughts or concerns from the home owners: (1) two northerns at the 26 inch legal limit, or (2) a limit of 5 any size northerns, or (3) make no change to the present – one of 32″ minimum length.
Please send your thoughts to the Secretary.
